The author of the guide is Julian Benson

Julian Benson

Julian qualified as a barrister in 1991. Barristers are lawyers who perform a range of specialist roles in injury claims (the different types of lawyers and their roles are fully explained in the guide).

He specialises in cases which concern personal injuries and fatal accidents, and works on behalf of injured individuals and defendants/insurers.

Julian is based at Guildhall Chambers, a set of barrister’s chambers, in Bristol.

In 2011, Guildhall Chambers was voted Chambers of the Year in the British Legal Awards by the influential legal news publication Legal Week and in 2014 has again been nominated for Regional Set of the Year by the prestigious independent legal directory Chambers & Partners.

What got me started?

In October 2011, I was giving a talk to a fantastic organisation which rehabilitates individuals who have lost limbs, often during army service, or in severe work-related or road accidents.

The men and women on the course were an inspiration, because of their determination to focus on what they could achieve despite devastating injuries.

Some of the participants had injury claims. At first, I did not really know what a barrister could say or do which might help them to start to get their lives back on track.

But after thinking about my experiences, and speaking to them, I realised that there was one useful thing I could do – and that turned into the guide.
